Is it smart to have a benchpress in a 2nd floor apartment?

not doing any heavy lifting, but I need to workout
Answer:
No, put it in the lobby.
You're concerned about going through the floor, or what?
how old is the appartment?
Sure, not a problem. You just shouldn't have all the weight stacked on top of each other. Plus a weight set is usually only 290lbs.
I think if the floor of the apartment can handle you and all your furniture, another couple hundred pounds of weights and equipment isn't gonna make much of a difference.
As long as you don't drop the weights on the floor you shouldn't have any problems. But you go to dropping weights on the floor and you will have problems with the people who live below you.
Oh no problem. Get your buddies all over for a kegger and see who can lift the most weight over their head. Invite the owner too.
IT WON'T HURT ANYTHING BUT TRY AND LINE IT UP WITH THE FLOOR JOISTS RATHER THAN IN BETWEEN. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAP THE FLOOR WITH A HAMMER AND LISTEN FOR A SOLID THUD TO FIND WHERE THE JOISTS ARE. IF YOU AREN'T DOING HEAVY LIFTING DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT THE FLOOR SHOULD HOLD 3 TO 4 HUNDRED POUNDS PER SQUARE FOOT JUST WATCH YOUR WEIGHT DISPERSEMENT AT THE POINT OF CONTACT.
Yeah I felt the same paranoia about a year ago when we moved in and my mom's boyfriend lived here and he wanted to bring his bench-press in and set it up in the living room..

1) Worst place ever
2) We're 2nd floor
3) This apartment isn't that new
4) All of our stuff (i.e., furniture, us, etc..) is pretty light so the bench press would be the heaviest and I didn't really want to be testing the resiliency of the floor

Needless to say he never brought it in.
